With the third installment of Forever Home, we take a glimpse in to the world of Fospice care. Many rescue groups around the country are stepping into the realm of Fospice which is the combination of hospice care and fostering.
Synopsis: Lizzie and fellow volunteer, Veronica, discuss Fospice with Arthur and his sweet adopted boy, Beau.
Forever Home worked with Foster Dogs of NYC in this episode. Fospice coordinator, Laura Irwin, explained to us that Foster Dogs NYC's Fospice program will search for a foster home for the dog in need, and will sponsor the dog’s basic needs for the remainder of their life. Their fospice recipient must be elderly (at a natural old age, according to their breed/size), and/or terminally ill.

As a Fospice recipient of Foster Dogs of NYC, Beau already has a forever home. He is an exceptional example of a sweet, homeless dog that was in need of a home and caregiver willing to take on his medical needs.
Beau’s story is a unique one; he was rescued from a well-meaning hoarder in Korea by BARRK Rescue, and brought to New York to look for a safe home. After his rescue, he was found to have incurable heart disease which will shorten his life. Foster Dogs NYC found him a temporary placement in Park Slope, followed by a permanent placement in the Upper West Side. He now lives in a fantastic apartment with another dog, and three cats!

Created in 2009, Foster Dogs of NYC is a non-profit corporation dedicated solely to foster care which connects willing rescuers, adopters, and fosters with animals in need. In addition to fostering, Foster Dogs of NYC has valuable programs like Operation Foster Bound, whose goal is to bring attention to dogs who have been waiting a long time for a forever home; Foster Workshop Series which focuses on dog care, dog health, and dog training; and Fospice, which helps provide end-of-life comfort and care to a homeless, terminally ill, and elderly dogs.

Although Beau is happy in his forever home, there are many other dogs like him still in need of a loving home. You can view them at Foster Dog's of NYC or BARRK.
We would also like to thank Gina Gabrielli for stopping by and grooming Beau to look his best for the series!
